Benefits of Webgrrl Membership!

Here is an outline of the benefits available to San Diego Chapter Webgrrls:

1) Webgrrls members mailing list: Most important area where members share all kinds of information and build strong support for each other. Regarding the listservs, I've learned that typically a Webgrrl chapter will have two. One that is members-only, and one that is open. The benefits of the members-only listserv will be job opportunity postings, information about resources and benefits available to webgrrl members only, and of course the community networking relationships. Since the list will be member only - all postings are deemed private/confidential information for the members only and should not be forwarded to other listservs without approval from the sender.

2) Local Community Benefits: Regular networking meetings, job leads and local discounts on products and services.

3) Workshops and Classes: Affordable hands-on workshops and classes in computer technology.

4) Industry Event Discounts/Free Passes/Participation: Webgrrls actively pursues and encourages participation in trade shows and other industry events. The benefits to a Webgrrl chapter/member depend on the arrangements with the vendor. Webgrrls have been able to attend or exhibit for free or a discount at shows such as Internet World, Seybold, Internet Electronic Commerce Show, Next 20 Years, PC World, Web '99 and others.

5) Promotional opportunities on the highly-trafficked Webgrrls Int'l site: There are several areas where chapters and members can promote themselves and their work.

6) Int'l Email Newsletter (if interested in receiving): Each member is auto-subscribed to an int'l email newsletter sent out by WebGrrls headquarters. It will cover chapter & Headquarter news, offer media opportunities, provide quality int'l job leads and event notices.

7) Free Monthly Online Tutorials: A free monthly tutorial will be provided by DigitalEdu to Webgrrl members. These tutorials are designed to complement the Webgrrl chapter class offerings - and will be archived for ongoing member access.

8) For US Members - Discounted Working Today Membership: Working Today will provide US Webgrrls with a discounted membership which gives members access to group-rate health insurance for individuals, free legal and financial advice, tax information, referral to useful resources for independent workers, a monthly newsletter and more. The cost to Webgrrls members is $10 versus $25 annual fee. Working Today is a national non-profit organization that promotes the interests of people who work on their own -- independent contractors, temps, part-timers, and contingent workers -- which includes a large segment of people in new media.

9) Webgrrls Int'l Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Int'l SIGs allow members to network with one another within their specific areas of interest. These are either listservs or web-based forums.

Future member benefits:

1) Webgrrl2Webgrrl Database Match: Barter system for 'need and give' matching.

2) Webgrrls has just partnered with Robert Half to provide members a 1-800# to call for assistance with career-counseling, resumes, job leads, etc. Also, Robert Half will be partnering to provide a dedicated space for Webgrrl Chapters to meet. Robert Half approached the Webgrrls interested in this affiliation because they recognized the untapped goldmine of talent within the Webgrrls communities.

3) And more to come, both through the int'l organization and those that we develop for our own chapter locally.
